Social Responsibility & Hip-Hop; Michael Brown & Stuart Scott

Is It So Black & White?

They say Hip-Hop is a Revolution
but there is a difference between glorifying where we come from & ignoring where we are.
Free speech, self-expression all that Hip-hop is not necessarily planned. It's from the heart & its spontaneous & thats why its called Flowing.

Michael Brown died after robbing a convenience store & having an altercation with a white police officer.
Nicki Minaj is now being blasted for saying,
“I feel like when Public Enemy were doing ‘Fight the Power,’ we as a culture had more power – now it feels hopeless. People say, ‘Why aren’t Black celebrities speaking out more?’ But look what happened to Kanye when he spoke out. People told him to apologize to Bush,” Nicki stated. “He was the unofficial spokesman for hip-hop, and he got torn apart. And now you haven’t heard him speaking about these last couple things, and it’s sad.”

“We got all these Black athletes, Black rappers, all these one-percents, record label owners, CEOs – that’s not saying nothing, that’s not bringing nothing to the community. You’re bleeding the community dry,” St. Louis Hip Hop artist/activist T-Dubb-O told Rolling Stone. “The shoes we buy, the clothes we buy, the music we play, the videos we watch. You glorify being from the hood, but do nothing for it. You glorify being from the trenches. but do nothing for it. When they’re killing us, you stand by silent.”
What do you think? Is an entertainer supported by a community obligated to that community to speak out on their issues? If we made songs about fighting the power & civil rights would you bump them???

In the meantime..

Stuart Scott, longtime ESPN anchor, died today and hip-hop paid tribute through social media.
Read More Here: HipHopDX.com
Stuart Scott said, “I like infusing [hip-hop] into what I do, because it’s part of who I am," he said at the time. "You’ve got to be true to who you are and what you do. I’m more of a hip-hop feel person. Music is how you feel. The younger the mind, that’s how I wanna be. One of the reasons why I do my job the way I do it is because I want to let people know it does not have to be the way society says it has to be."

This man, though not a Hip-Hop artist, incorporated his background & his experience into his job so seamlessly that he became an icon & spokesperson in his own right.
Is it the place of Entertainers to speak on social issues? When they do, they are often blasted for it. Hip-hop is infamous for vague misunderstood one-line references & punches.
Is that how we should speak on the issues? Is it social media?
I don't know the answers, but I know Hip-Hop is listening. As artists & free agents, we don't feel the need to address everything or anything directly.
However, you will never catch us biting our tongue. I look forward to a day where free speech really means free speech, NO HATE allowed by either party.
But in the meantime, I will say...

UNJUSTIFIED POLICE VIOLENCE IS WRONG

HIP-HOP IS A WAY OF LIFE & EXPRESSION

FREEDOM OF SPEECH is also FREEDOM TO NOT SPEAK

When music fans support political songs & artists, those songs will multiply. When freedom of speech will not incite hate but dialogue, Entertainers will feel more free to speak on social issues without the cloak of metaphors.

In the meantime, Let's Party...

Here's MISS LADY SHADOW's own political girl power Anthems...

GIRLS GONE WI-FI

HIT THE POLE

And here is the lesson...Whether you agree with my message or find what I do empowering or not, it's my freedom of expression. If you listen closely you will hear my
Truth.

Iggy Azalea Responds to Azealia Banks' Hot 97 Interview

Girl Kill The Drama!

Today in hip-hop, Azealia Banks blasts Iggy Azalea on Hot 97 for cultural appropriation. Is this about race or feminism?

On HipHopDX

Check out the original interview below...

The host mentions that Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea came up at the same time & that actually Iggy appeared on the scene after Azealia Banks. He wonders if Iggy stole Azealia's name, which was already out there, to further her own career.

Azealia Banks responds by basically saying that white America continues to give the finger to black culture by giving music awards like Grammys to artists like Iggy & Macklemore when they don't deserve it & don't have the best record in the category.

Macklemore said himself Kendrick Lamar's records was better. As for Iggy, no one can know for sure how award committees function...so maybe we should only go by fan votes?

Azealia Banks says she doesn't care that Iggy's music is played on the radio, but lets not call it hip-hop. She also states that white people winning hip-hop awards tells little white kids they can accomplish whatever they want while telling black kids they can't do sh*t. Is this true??? What do y'all think?

Iggy responds...

I agree with the comments on marketing. If 64% of the United States is white, it makes sense that advertising & all sorts of other executives & the American consumers put their mouth & money behind artists that look like them.

This IS racism, or at least white privilege, whether conscious or unconscious. However, as a music fan, especially with all the free downloads out there, I will only purchase a truly amazing album, no matter who the artist.
Azealia Banks says, "Well then put her in the pop category with Katy Perry because that is not rap." But she is flowing on a beat. In the end, as Iggy points out, would Banks be so bothered by it if she was winning like that?

In today's world of oxymorons & shadows, Miss Lady Shadow finds this all very bittersweet. Watching the interview, I think Azealia meant everything she says, whatever place it came from. I also believe she's a little pissed the bitch stole her name & ca$hed out. Do y'all think the crying was sincere?? And calling TI a coon? #JustSaying

But, as a white girl rapper - I'll say this.

HIP-HOP FANS DECIDE WHAT IS HIP-HOP !!!

I agree that "Fancy", sung by 2 white women, Iggy & Charlie XCX, is just as much a pop record, but hip-hop fans love it! But Azealia Banks is not the authority! And her attitude is definitely a lil whack. TI's wife Tiny has nothing to do with the convo! She talks about wanting to beat up TI.

Going at somebody's neck in any Entertainment field, especially hip-hop is asking for infamy, & this chick goes all in! But I also understand being pissed off for being passed over in favor of a white chick in a "traditionally" black category.

The Anonymous hacker group then threatens Iggy posting on Instagram;

You have 48 hours, @IGGYAZALEA.
However, do we want any music genre defined by the color of its artists??? "Get your fucking clicks. Here it is!," as Banks says.

Now check out Miss Lady Shadow's videos & tell me this not hip-hop. Much Love.

White Girl Twerk

Helllo BaD GiRLz !!!
`(& those who love us)`

Dont Miss the AeRiAL TwErK Anthem!

Categorizing by race can't be good, but "White Girls" is high up in the search engines when it comes to hip-hop...At least we're talking about it right? I cannot speak on the prevalence of women of any color in any music genre throughout American history, but I can say it is a new phenomenon in rap & hip-hop!

Fit is the new sexy & twerking ain't about what you got but what you do with it! If a black man can be president & white girls can rap & twerk, well...you know the rest! Check out one of my favorite white girl twerk videos, besides mine of course...

And they're Russian...I love it!!! Shoshina Katerina is the sh*t!

Another Russian Girl Twerking Video I love...the song, her style, the transitions...her ass is talented. I'm actually gathering inspiration for my next music video!

Fraules team is cool too (see below) but really the more research I do the more I see Russian girls got it!

For those who have a problem with twerking, sexy dancing, stripping, or provocative movement or imagery of any kind - you are only perpetuating patriarchy & denying women free will. The human body, especially the female body, is a thing of beauty. Let's not be ashamed of how the Goddess blessed us & let's empower each other & never hate!

Girl Power to the Max !!!!

Now, y'all know I always gotta take it to another level, which is why my videos feature AeRiAL TWeRKinG. White girls may be taking over the rap game, but Miss Lady Shadow wants to change the Performance game. Dance, twerking, pole-dancing, aerial silks, lyra, fire spinning, fire eating, stilt-walking...all the elements circus & variety acts combine to amaze you...let's bring that to hip-hop! Can't wait for y'all to see what I have planned next!

Gareth Emery feat. Bo Bruce - U - Wins Tune of the Year #ASOT694

Hello Bunnies !!!

I doubt I'll stick to the blog thing every day...but you never know New Year's resolutions can come early.

A song I've been listening to thanks to Twitter & @asot today is....

Gareth Emery feat. Bo Bruce

Bryan Kearney Remix
Tune of the Year

Here is also the original...
Gareth Emery feat. Bo Bruce
U

I am definitely a fan trance, techno, EDM, breaks, drum-N-bass...all that especially mixed with hip-hop! However, I think as far as Electronic Dance Music goes, trance is the style (though these are arbitrary delineations as with anything else) most difficult to make engaging.

I hate being at a club & not noticing when the last song ended & the next one started!...especially if I've heard them before. Lol. I think every song should have variation and club songs need lyrics.

So, yea, I usually don't love a trance song, especially not right away, but I have to say this song is great! The beauty of Bo Bruce's voice, but even more Bryan Kearney's cool spin on it is totally worth it. Check out the video!

Here's a few other trance music video's since we're visiting the topic today...

Hip-Hop & Trance are not that different. One of the things I love about music today is the mix of genres & styles that allows truly unique artist to experiment & find their own voice. Check out this video by Miss Lady Shadow...

Girls Gone Wi-Fi

Miss Lady Shadow

This beat, made by @MusicGenius123 is not, by any means, traditional hip-hop. This beat has definite techno influence.

That is the beauty of rap, hip-hop, spoken word; it's compatible with any musical style. That is the simple reason getting feature for an already released song almost always implies a hip-hop artist. Damn.

Hopefully, more & more hip-hop artists will discover the beauty of trance music & incorporate it into their music.

Innovation & cross breeding in music & performance is what The TwerkOut is all about.

Bad Girl Babez!

Girls Gone WiFi

Miss Lady Shadow's first real album showcases her crazy skillz & unbelievable Acrobatic Rap.

To be a woman, be free, be capable of incredible things is a new reality of vision and love from me to you. Because, though I may talk sh*t, there is no Light with no Shadow

Miss Lady Shadow was so happy to bring y'all Hit The Pole & the other songs collected on Girls Gone Wi-Fi (plz buy here), including Trap Math, Run, Robert De Niro, & Turn Up

Listen to the links...MLS rocks it. Anyway, vulnerable but arrogant, beautiful but flawed it's pretty much undeniable. Tired of the filter, Girls Gone Wi-Fi is taking the message of Girls Power to the next level with crazy acrobatic performance & acrobatic lyrics.

Here's some of the videos Girls Gone Wi-Fi generated. Hip-hop always incorporated movement. Pole-dancing is the new breaking. Just like women have taken over the game overall.

The TwerkOut is a deeper exploration of some of the interests & influences that combined to create Miss Lady Shadow's vision. From Hip-hop art & aerial hustle to new-age healing, circus, & incredibly integrative performance, The TwerkOut will let you know whats going on in the world of
White Girl Swag!

Hip-Hop:
For a long time, MLS has avoided comment on other musician's, industry trends & the drama. My general motto in life is, "Live & let Live." I don't judge anyone for whatever path they choose to take, as long as it is a path of Happiness.

Hip-Hop music was a source of healing to me before it was ever a passion or career destination because of the ability of stream of consciousness to stumble upon Truth & to Laugh & Have Fun. That & the healing power of movement & dance! Now...being a Bad Bitch may be a blessing or an armour or a choice, but in the end...if y'all really want me to speak on somethin', lemme know. ;)

Whether in lyrics or in a blog, it's all Love. I am specifically interested in what's going on with other White Girl rappers, the Bay, the Dirty South, twerking & strippers. Love it or Leave it! xo

Pole-Dancing:
I always loved movement & fitness, but nothing has captured my love like pole-dancing, vertical pole, aerial pole ...whatever you want to call it! Here's the proof Boo Boo... (as many of you already know)

Miss Lady Shadow - Hit The Pole (Official Music Video)

The TwerkOut is all about what I, & you, can do with your body. Vertical pole is considered one of the most difficult aerial arts. An erotic dance, an ancient acrobatic skill, a fitness craze & hopefully soon an Olympic sport.

I believe pole-dancing to be as essential to Hip-Hop as graffiti or breakdancing. Think about it. Which one have you been seeing more often lately? And trust me, I also love to break-dance. I like to combine any skill I pick up into my music & videos, but pole-dancing is my number #1 love.

Circus:
Some other circus arts I greatly love & enjoy include aerial tissue, which you can see MLS performing in the upcoming video White Girl, lyra (aerial hoop), stilt-walking & acrobatics. I also love doing fire performance; poi, fire fans, fire-eating & fire-breathing.

The beauty of circus is that it makes the impossible possible. Movement like music can tell a story. I combine them to amaze you...here's a quick look at some of my circus tWerk..

Miss Lady Shadow Circus Demo
or
Miss Lady Shadow - Another World (Aerial Pole Act)

The TwerkOut is about putting in wOrk, by any means necessary, 24/7. I want to see if anyone else out there is on my wavelength! Let's combine movement with words with fire with sex & put on a real show!

Fitness & Healing:
Though all my performance arts are about fitness, I hope to make time on The TwerkOut to talk about clairvoyant reading, healing, psychic powers, the Mayan Calendar, astrology, numerology, the law of attraction, & homeopathy. Also falling under this category is my interest in Kama Sutra, tantric arts, & marijuana.

What does this have to do with the Performer? There is a thin line between indulgence & addiction, attention & superstition. Many artists understand how fundamental faith is to our lifestyle, & how rampant the temptation!

But to mY lifestyle & what I do?? Fitness of mind, body & spirit are essential. A Hu$TLeR is
-Self-Motivated
-World-Smart
-Skilled

I don't want a normal job or a normal life & the easy road, but I will take care of myself in every way & try to understand this F'd up World.
Tomorrow, you'll see the message in my music.

BAD GIRL WORLD is here to stay!!!
